'Gargamel' is a gorgeous "black" sempervivum, named after the fictional character from The Smurfs (who wears black clothing). A new variety (2004) from Johann Fritz in Germany. Erwin Geiger commented: "A must for every sempervivum lover." It holds its black-purple colour well through the summer, has a great shape, and is tough. We're pleased to introduce this superb variety to sempervivum enthusiasts here in the UK. (It's difficult to do proper justice to the "black" houseleeks; Gargamel is better than our photos suggest.)
