Sempervivum 'Leopold' is a distinctive modern variety from Volkmar Schara (Germany, 2011), named after his son. It has repeatedly ranked highly in the Sempervivum of the Year awards, achieving 2nd place in 2021 and again in 2022. This is a "black" variety that photos simply cannot do justice to when attempting to capture its dark colour. Different to other "black" sempervivums - such as the excellent 'Gargamel' and 'Tintenblut' - most obviously by the broad leaves of the rosettes. This is perhaps the darkest of all and most consistent throughout the year. Already popular with sempervivum lovers on mainland Europe, we're pleased to introduce this dramatic variety to enthusiasts here in the UK.
